LONNIE PAULOS, M.D.
Dr. Lonnie Paulos received his undergraduate degree (B.S., Zoology) at the University of Utah, where he played five years of football and was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference Academic Team, Honorable Mention for the Academic All American Team, and was Outstanding Student Athlete for three consecutive years. He also received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Utah and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed a two-part fellowship, the first half at the Atlanta Sports Medicine Foundation and the second half at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Prior to joining the Andrews Institute, Dr. Paulos most recently served as the medical director of the American Sports Medicine Alliance in Houston, Texas and served as Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine from 2005 to 2007. Prior to moving to Houston, Dr. Paulos was the medical director and founding partner of the Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has been the Medical Director of the Orthopedic Biomechanics Institute since 1985. Dr. Paulos has written numerous book chapters and articles and has delivered hundreds of presentations to local, regional, national, and international audiences. He has served on the Editorial Boards of many professional journals, including the Journal of Sports Traumatology, Operative Techniques in Sports Medicine, Orthopedic and Sports Medicine News, Techniques in Orthopaedics, the American Journal of Knee Surgery, the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review and the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine. Dr. Paulos is an active member of many professional organizations including: American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Academic Orthopaedic Society, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, International Musculoskeletal Laser Society, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, International Society of the Knee and Orthopaedic Research Society. Dr. Paulos has worked with many amateur and professional sports teams, including: The Cincinnati Bengals; Cincinnati Reds, Univ. of Cincinnati; Georgia Technical College; the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team; the U.S. Gymnastics Federation; the Salt Lake Real pro soccer team; the Utah Warriors arena football team; Granite School District; the Professional Spring Football League; the Salt Lake Trappers Triple A Baseball Team; a Seattle Mariners Triple A Baseball team; Ballet West; Brigham Young University; and the National football League. Dr. Paulos holds over 20 U.S. patents and has developed numerous surgical procedures and related devices. Dr. Paulos has also been named the medical director of the research and education division of the Institute, renamed the Andrews-Paulos Research & Education Institute. |
